Kailash conservation framework drafted
(ICIMOD; TibetInfoNet) Representatives from China, India and Nepal have developed a draft Regional Cooperation Framework for conservation and sustainable development of the Kailash region under the 'Kailash Sacred Landscape Conservation Initiative' initiated by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). The programme covers the area linked culturally and geographically to the sacred mountain which spreads across Tibet, India and Nepal. The representatives met at the Third Regional Workshop on the Initiative held from 16 to 18 December 2010, in Nagarkot, Nepal. Details of the framework have not yet been made public, but, like the whole initiative, it is based on the principles of participatory management, equitability, sustainability, partnerships, ecosystem management, and transboundary cooperation. An additional principle, that of "national sovereignty", was apparently added on the First Regional Workshop, in April 2010.
