Forest fire in Gonjo
(Xinhua) Fire fighters have extinguished a high-altitude fire that engulfed dozens of hectares of virgin forest in Gonjo county, Chamdo (Chin:Qamdo) Prefecture, east of the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR). More than 260 fire fighters along with some 1,000 police and local residents fought the fire for five days. Dry and windy weather reportedly helped the fire spread over 46 hectares of forest. No casualties or property damage caused by the fire were reported. The cause of the fire remains unclear.
