Tibetan exile parliament begins its session
(TibetNet) The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile (TPIE) began its 3rd session on 14 march 2007 afternoon. In his opening address, the Speaker, Karma Chophel, gave an account of what has happened to the issue of Tibet in the last six months. He expressed his concern over the human rights situation in Tibet, including the denunciation campaign against the Dalai Lama carried out since last May, and the Nangpa-La tragedy, all of which he claimed illustrate Tibet's worsening situation. He updated the deputies on the second All India Tibet Support Groups Conference held at Bodh Gaya in Bihar on 13-15 October 2006, which he said was successful. He also gave an account of the visit last December to Dharamshala of a Kalmyk delegation, including the President and members of the Kalmyk parliament. He welcomed Kalon Kelsang Yangkyi Takla and the new Nyingma deputy Ven. Sonam Tenphel as they made their first appearance at the parliament since their appointment.
