TAR produced 1.5 million megawatt hours of electricity in 2006
(Interfax) According to the Tibet Daily, the TAR's electricity output exceeded 1.5 million megawatt hours during 2006, up by around 15 percent compared to 2005,.The local power bureau's revenues increased by 21 percent to RMB 440 million ($56.56 million), while its net profits jumped 14.6 percent to RMB 57.7 million ($7.42 million). Around RMB 785 million ($100.90 million) was invested in power construction in 2006. Over the period, the 6-megawatt Shiquan River hydropower project was put into operation, and two generators at the 100-megawatt Zhikong hydropower plant were also completed, while a number of new projects including the 400-megawatt Xueka hydropower project started construction. In addition the feasibility studies of the 102-megawatt Laohuzui hydropower project were passed, and preparatory construction was launched. The report also claims that 110,000 TAR citizens were given access to electricity during 2006.
