China reports 10 bird flu outbreaks this year
(Xinhua) About 47,000 poultry fowl died in ten outbreaks of bird flu in seven provinces in the PRC during 2006, said an official with the Ministry of Agriculture. Another 2.94 million birds were culled, Jia Youling, chief veterinary officer and director of the Veterinary Bureau of Ministry of Agriculture, told a press conference. A total of 3,641 migratory birds in Qinghai province and the TAR had died of the disease in 2006, he said. The cases of human infection by bird flu numbered 13 in 2006, and seven in 2005.
