Chinese scientists to study Tibet railway's impact on wildlife
The Chinese Academy of Sciences will launch an expedition team to the Hoh Xil region, which borders the PRC regions of Tibet, Qinghai and Xinjiang, to study the impact of the Golmud-Lhasa railway on wildlife. The 45-member team will investigate the geology, ecology and environment of the region during the 50-day expedition due to commence on 10 October, said Ding Lin, the lead scientist on the expedition. While government officials praise the supposed environmentally friendly construction of the railway, some Chinese scientists are more restrained, believing more time is needed to evaluate the impact of the project.
