China to use GPS technology to map Nepalese-Tibetan border
Chinese cartographers have launched a comprehensive project to map the 1,400-km-long Nepalese-Tibetan border using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. The Surveying and Mapping Bureau of Shaanxi will lead the Chinese team that will work in seven counties of the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR). Spokesman Li Qingyuan said the mapping will be valid only after the chiefs of both parties are in full agreement. The first batch of workers are scheduled to arrive in the Tibet-Nepal border area in April and all the outdoor surveying is planned to finish by the end of September.
