TYC storm Chinese Embassy
(Phayul) In retaliation for the alleged ill treatment of monks in the Drepung Monastery in Lhasa, over 40 Tibetans stormed the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi. Members of the Tibet Youth Congress (TYC) converged on the embassy shouting slogans and then scaled its walls. The activists also tied themselves to poles and trees to avoid being taken away by both Chinese and Indian security forces. The protestors handed over a memorandum to embassy staff calling for the end to the patriotic education campaign in Tibet and the release of all arrested monks and nuns imprisoned in Tibet. The memorandum also called for the re-induction of the detained monks into their respective monasteries. 26 of the demonstrators were arrested.
